Working Group Coordinator Session 2: Peacebuilding, technology and the future of warfare

Barbara Nelson is vice president of Consumer Cloud Services, Software and Strategy for Content Solutions, the consumer group at Western Digital Corporation. This business touches 300 million people globally a year, and therefore deals with the competing agendas of privacy, customer preferences, personal liberties and ethics.

Barbara has over 20 years of leadership in technology, including being CEO of two venture- backed companies and having executive roles at Western Digital, Quantum, Intel and Maxtor. In addition to consumer electronics and software, she’s worked in a wide range of industries including enterprise cloud security, entertainment video and lighting, IT infrastructure, semiconductors and storage. She has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. She has served as director on four boards including one non-profit, Support Network for Battered Women, which addressed the issues of domestic violence.
A lifelong Catholic, she’s been involved in leading and facilitating music ministries, Scripture groups and marriage preparation in various parishes. She and her husband of 43 years love to travel and have visited over 85 countries. For fun, she plays keyboard in a rock band.
